Saffron Walden's Choral Society since 1883
Patron: John Rutter | Music Director: Janet Wheeler

Saffron Walden Choral Society is seeking to appoint a new Musical Director from April 2022, when our current MD leaves the post after 30 years. We perform three major concerts per year at the prestigious Saffron Hall and a Christmas concert with local school children at the parish Church of St. Mary’s.

SWCS currently has almost 100 members (SATB) and celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2023. Repertoire includes the major choral works from the 18th-20th centuries, along with lesser known contemporary works and some commissioned pieces from our current MD, Janet Wheeler. We routinely work with professional soloists and orchestras and in 2019 performed Belshazzar’s Feast with the LPO under the direction of Marin Alsop.

The role of MD is to take rehearsals on Monday evenings, direct the choir and orchestra at concerts and work alongside the committee. Key skills include knowledge of choir development and vocal technique, selection of appropriate and challenging repertoire and concert planning.

To apply, please email including your CV, two references and a brief covering letter outlining what you can bring as MD of SWCS. Closing date for applications is 14th June 2021.
